Roundabout: A circular road, sometimes referred to as a traffic circle, connect- ing three or more roads without any other method of traffic control (i.e., stop signs) Service Lane: A road that is typically located along a highway for accessing properties, especially commercial and industrial Shoulder: An untraveled, improved area that is adjacent to a road's surface Sidewalk: A linear, hard surface structure for pedestrian traffic Snow Shed: A structure built over a road at the side of a mountain to prevent snow from sliding onto a road's surface oroughfare: A generic name for a road Toll Point: A location where booths and other equipment are used to collect tolls Traffic Circle: A circular road, sometimes referred to as a roundabout, connect- ing three or more roads without any other method of traffic control (i.e., stop signs) Traffic Flow : e amount of traffic passing at a single point Undivided Highway: A road lacking a physical barrier between opposing lanes Winter Road: A road only usable during the winter, when the ground (or a water-body) is frozen, where its annual location may vary Community Road Network Guide to Best Practices v4.0 viii
