Roads are typically at grade level, which is ground level. e grade level is assigned a zero value. For roads that cross other transportation features above grade are assigned values one or greater according to their order at the crossing point. For roads crossing underground, such as in tunnels, editors should assign a negative value according to their order below grade. 3.3.9 Road Structure Road structures, such as bridges, dams, and snow sheds, should be represented as linear features that support roads. Mapping editors should include the structure's name, such as Pont Jacques-Cartier. A structure's name can be bilingual (i.e., both its English and French name exists), monolingual (i.e., only a French or only a English name exists), or aboriginal. Bridges support roads in order to span obstacles—typically rivers, other roads or railways.
