January’s Map of the Month: Aviqtuuq
January 2022’s Map of the Month is “Aviqtuuq”, made by the Spence Bay Trappers and Hunters. It depicts an 85,750 km2 area, the Aviqtuuq Inuit Protected and Conserved Area, that represents locally developed efforts to create a conservation economy in the region. We’ve paired the Map of the Month with apps and stories that show how GIS is being used by Indigenous communities to bolster their success.

February’s Map of the Month: Sidney Spit—Image Classification
February 2022’s Map of the Month is “Sidney Spit—Image Classification” by the Gulf Islands National Park Reserve. The map shows how to use image classification to identify vegetated and non-vegetated areas found in high-resolution imagery.
