Basemap updates for Canada – March 2018

The raster topographic imagery and vector tile basemaps were all updated with new Canadian content in March.

The raster topographic basemap was updated with content from 10 contributors, including 2 new ones:

  • Aridrie, AB
  • Cochrane, AB
  • Lambton County, ON
  • New Westminster, BC (new)
  • Niagara Falls, ON
  • Okotoks, AB
  • Squamish, BC
  • Sudbury, ON
  • Winnipeg, MB (new)
  • York Region, ON

Cochrane, AB: previous content on the left and updated content on the right.

Two communities provided updated imagery for the imagery basemap:

  • Cornwall, ON
  • Kelowna, BC

And, finally, the number of Canadian contributors included in the vector tile basemaps continue to grow with the addition of content supplied by 5 contributors, including a province:

  • Lambton County, ON
  • Nova Scotia
  • Okotoks, AB
  • Squamish, BC
  • York Region, ON

About the Author

Paul Heersink is a cartographer and Program Manager of Esri Canada’s Roads & Addresses Program: an initiative that is aiming to build a seamless topographic basemap using contributor data. He has over 25 years of cartographic experience, working in both the public and private sectors. Paul has always been interested in mapping and drew his own atlas at the age of 10. He took a detour in his career through the fields of psychology and social work before returning to cartography.
