Repsol wins Esri’s Special Achievement in GIS award

REDLANDS, Calif., Esri User Conference – July 13, 2021 Esri Canada congratulates Repsol Oil & Gas Canada, a global multi-energy company based in Madrid, Spain with oil field operations in Alberta, for receiving the 2021 Esri Special Achievement in GIS (SAG) Award. They were chosen from thousands of Esri customer organizations worldwide for their effective enterprise implementation of geographic information system (GIS) technology to deliver better services.

“Repsol needed to deliver real-time asset status information to central dashboards. They wanted to monitor field workers and get the right people where they’re needed, when they’re needed. The immediate accessible integration of real-time data from mobile devices makes that possible, and they’ve employed it to great effect,” said Alex Miller, president, Esri Canada.

The Workforce mobile app allows them to dispatch operators efficiently using a simple, easy, and straightforward interface that is quickly understood. They can track the locations of operators, even third-party operators, whether their vehicle has GPS hardware or not. They used Esri’s ArcGIS Workforce (now part of ArcGIS Field Maps), ArcGIS Dashboards and ArcGIS GeoEvent Server, to stream and map real-time data on their facilities and assets with the locations of their operators. When combined with production data for each well, it gives the Integrated Operations Centres (IOC) a full understanding of what is happening in their operating area.

“We needed to see real-time data like pressure, temperature, volume and flow, and pass it directly to connected dashboards. But also, we had to do that while maintaining the security of that information. IOC managers also like the simple executive dashboard that provides key performance indicators for immediate feedback on daily operations goals and production variance,” said Tenzin Rubling, senior GIS analyst for Repsol Oil & Gas Canada.

This has improved Repsol’s IOCs ability to respond with greater speed and accuracy to operational events. Now, other departments are leveraging the real-time streaming data from 2,000 live wells that has been made available on the ArcGIS platform.
