ArcUser: Escambia County Safeguards the Wildlife of Florida’s Coastline
Sea turtles and beach mice might not look like frontline defenders of Florida’s coast, but for Kindall Butler, an environmental specialist for Escambia County, they are precisely that. To protect these species and the delicate ecosystems they support, the team she coleads monitors over 12 miles of beaches. The team uses high-accuracy GNSS technologies such as Reach RS2+ and Reach RX receivers from Esri partner Emlid alongside GIS tools like ArcGIS Survey123, ArcGIS Field Maps and ArcGIS Pro.

ArcNews: Wisconsin Enhances Airport Safety with ArcGIS Aviation Airports
In the United States, a federal regulation known as Part 77 establishes standards and notification requirements for airport buffer zones—areas in, around and above designated airports that must be evaluated periodically for airspace obstructions. To help comply with regulations, improve airport safety and better communicate with airport neighbors and stakeholders, staff at the Wisconsin Department of Transportation’s Bureau of Aeronautics mapped airports and their surrounding areas using the ArcGIS Aviation Airports extension for ArcGIS Pro.

Inspired by Vision Zero, a strategy to eliminate traffic fatalities and severe injuries, Durham Region’s Strategic Road Safety Action Plan aims to reduce collision severity in the Region. The Region’s geographic information systems (GIS) team is using the network screening capabilities of Esri’s advanced geospatial technology to examine Durham Region’s road network for road safety issues and high-collision locations. This analysis then allows them to identify high-priority safety improvements.
