Celebrating International Women’s Day with maps and apps!

International Women’s Day is celebrated annually on March 8th. Take this opportunity to discuss and share women’s past and on-going contributions to the world with your students by using some ArcGIS Online Web maps and Web applications (apps).

Celebrate International Women’s Day with your students by using the following ArcGIS Online story maps and Web maps that promote the contributions women have made in Canada and around the world.

Women’s Right to Vote in Canada
This January marked the 100th year since the first province in Canada – Manitoba – granted the right for women to vote. To commemorate the occasion, the K-12 group created this Web map that shows the year women* in Canada received the right to vote by province and territory.

About the Author

Angela Alexander is a K-12 Education Specialist in the Esri Canada Education and Research group. She has over 15 years of experience working with educators across Canada. Angela focuses on producing geographic information system (GIS) and curriculum-specific resources, and conducting and creating custom workshops for educators. She manages the GIS Ambassador Program and is the Technical Chair for the annual Skills Ontario GIS competition.
