Esri Canada to showcase GIS innovation at ITS World Congress 2025

Geographic information systems use the power of location to organize, analyze and share data for smarter, safer intelligent transportation systems.

TORONTO—August 19, 2025—Esri Canada is pleased to participate in the Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) World Congress 2025, to be held in Atlanta, GA from August 24 to 28. The company will demonstrate how geographic information system (GIS) technology is making intelligent transportation systems (ITS) smarter and safer by establishing authoritative transportation data and insights through advanced mapping and spatial analytics.

“All aspects of transportation management are rooted in location,” says Daniel Kligerman, director, Intelligent Transportation Solutions, Esri Canada. “GIS provides a powerful, interoperable platform for connecting, analyzing and sharing device, sensor and environment data. This enhances real-time communication of actionable insights, based on authoritative data, to vehicles and road users for improved safety and navigation.”

Esri Canada is developing the Transportation – GeoXchange® (TGX), a dynamic platform and community hub where government agencies, data stewards, planners and operators can securely share, integrate and leverage transportation data in a unified environment. Built on Esri’s ArcGIS technology, the world’s most comprehensive geospatial platform, the TGX aims to provide the tools necessary to explore future possibilities and understand the potential consequences of decisions before they are made in the real world—fostering a data-driven, innovative and resilient transportation network.

Esri Canada will showcase several tools and capabilities of the TGX during the Tech Tours at the ITS World Congress.

At the Day One Deployment District excursion from Monday, August 25 to Wednesday, August 27

Network Vehicle-to-Everything (Network V2X) live demo – Experience real-time Traveler Information Messages (TIMs), displayed and generated by Raven Connected’s Onboard Unit (OBU), orchestrated by TGX and delivered by Verizon’s Edge Transportation Exchange, as TGX aggregates, validates and analyzes data from sensors and devices. This comprehensive process  provides a more cost-effective and scalable solution compared to traditional roadside units. Attendees can book ride-along in-vehicle demonstrations online.

At Curiosity Lab on Tuesday, August 26 and Wednesday, August 27

Lane closure optimization – Esri Canada has partnered with Ottawa-based Raven Connected to address the significant impact of lane closures on roadway congestion and safety. Transportation authorities can detect and monitor lane impacts in real time, enhancing their ability to manage work zones and ensure permit compliance. This empowers agencies with accurate, up-to-date data to improve roadway safety and reduce travel time impacts. It also digitally transforms and increases the efficiency of lane closure inspections through improved targeting of enforcement.

Roadway data integration – Explore how the TGX is advancing transportation insights by integrating public and private data feeds from sources such as Waze, Marta and 511GA. This enables enhanced visualization of travel impacts through both official and crowdsourced data. -By reducing dependency on single data sources, transportation planners and managers gain a more comprehensive picture of travel conditions, leading to better outcomes for transportation agencies and road users. -

High-definition mapping for V2X applications –- Discover tools for making spatially accurate, high-definition maps to support SAE J2735 standards and unlock new V2X applications. GIS-managed features such as lanes, stop bars and crosswalks are integrated into detailed basemaps, providing precise spatial representation for planning, design, operations and maintenance.- These high-definition maps ensure interoperability and support the creation of public-facing applications that are both detailed and user friendly. -

The TGX unlocks insights and hidden patterns in the transportation system, resulting in smarter, safer and more efficient mobility for everyone,” noted Mr. Kligerman. “We’re excited to introduce this pioneering initiative at the ITS World Congress and welcome new partners and contributors.”
