Map of the Month: Halifax Regional Fire & Emergency: 8 Minute Fire Station Coverage
Halifax Regional Fire and Emergency (HRFE) examined potential changes in its response capability in the urban fire response zones with respect to response times and number of stations, apparatus and personnel that can be delivered within a specific amount of time. The resultant map counts the total number of stations in an eight-minute response time for a first alarm assignment. The coverage models were compared with data collected from HRFE’s computer-aided dispatch (CAD) system, as well as from fire vehicle GPS data to properly calibrate the fire response model.
