Map of the Month: Sable Island
Sable Island National Park Reserve is a wild and windswept crescent-shaped island of sand, seemingly emerging out of nowhere amidst the great expanse of the north Atlantic. The forces of nature dominate all life here, past and present. Located 160 km from its closest landfall in mainland Nova Scotia, this isolated and remote island is teeming with life, a testament to the power of nature and survival.

Community Map of Canada - Style of the Month: "Truly Purrfect"
This Community Map of Canada Style of the Month is a "Truly Purrfect" cat-themed basemap created by cat lover and Community Map GIS Analyst Dana McKee. Using various cat fur textures for land, ice, buildings, and vegetation, cat icon symbology for capital cities, and pawprints for highway shields, this cat basemap will have you feline fine. A cat-nose-pink colour palette is used for roads and labels, the waterbodies are made up of vibrant goldfish pattern - a cat's favourite devious snack and small cardboard box icons symbolize trees (cats love playing in boxes, and boxes come from trees).

Purr-haps you would like to create your own custom basemap style for your various catography projects? Using the ArcGIS Vector Tile Style Editor tool, the world is your scratching post -- you can customize the symbology for each data layers of the Community Meowp of Canada to suit your own preferences and style. To explore this and other creative basemap styles, look no further than the Community Map of Canada Style of the Month Gallery.

A cat-themed map extent of Canada. The land mass has the texture of the fur of an orange cat and that of the USA is a darker fur texture. All capital cities and the icon for Canada are of sitting black cats. The ocean water bodies are a dark teal colour with pale green goldfish icons. All text and provincial and federal boundaries are pink.
