Public safety: The future is so bright I have to wear shades
I’m super excited about our upcoming virtual seminar, Building a Safer, Connected Community!
Why am I excited?
Well, we’re going to look at technologies that will have significant positive impacts on how you—our customers—serve your constituents. You’ll hear from the Edmonton Police Service, the City of Guelph, and GeoComm, an Esri Platinum Partner. They will talk about how location intelligence is driving tactics, starting from processing a 9-1-1 call, right through to response and managing special events. We’re talking IoT, indoor mapping, 3D, and how public safety grade GIS data will save lives and protect what matters.
Points to ponder:
- Did you know that over 80% of all calls to 9-1-1 come from mobile devices, and that the average person spends over 80% of their life indoors? When you do the math, a lot of 9-1-1 calls originate from mobile phones indoors, so there's more opportunity now that the technology has fallen into place to begin mapping the geography of the “indoors”.
- Perhaps your computer aided dispatch (CAD) system displays building footprints on the map. But what if you actually had the indoor geography of that building mapped out, showing ingress/egress, room names/numbers, camera and AED locations?
- Imagine the response efficiencies when you take this to the next level (pun intended), and make these features floor-aware?
