From new smart mapping capabilities to a redesigned organization page, check out the new features and enhancements in the latest ArcGIS Online update.
Every few months, ArcGIS Online is updated to give users increased functionality and a better experience when using the online GIS. For the June update, we’ve put together a list of features and updates in ArcGIS Online that K-12 educators will find useful.
Smart mapping is a mapping functionality of ArcGIS that lets you explore, understand and find meaning in your data within beautiful, thematic maps. The latest update introduces new Relationship styles that allow you to explore and visualize two topics within a single map.
- Relationship mapping
- Bivariate mapping - you can visualize two topics within a single map based on their relationship.
- Relationship and Size mapping – you can map two attributes you select to show as the relationship, while the third attribute you choose will be shown by size.
Try the new bivariate mapping option in ArcGIS Online. This map represents the relationship between two variables: obesity and diabetes in the USA.
Feature layer templates
You can now create a new feature layer using the Build a layer category in the template gallery. Choose a template to create a point, line, or polygon layer, and you can add fields to your new feature layer.
Create a feature layer from the Content page using a template of your choice.
Field views in the layer’s detail page
In your layer’s detail page, click on Data to view and manage Fields in the layer’s attribute table and to add a new field.
Story Maps updates
Tell stories using one of these updated templates.
If you’re an administrator of your school’s ArcGIS Online subscription, you will notice the organization page has gone through a redesign to help you get to the important stuff quickly.
