New Canadian History Lessons: Vimy Ridge and the Seven Years’ War

History happens somewhere. Explore our latest ArcGIS Online history lessons on the Battle of Vimy Ridge and the Seven Years’ War.

A great way to bring historic events alive is through the creation of interactive web maps! To commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Battle of Vimy Ridge on April 9th, 2017, Esri Canada’s Education and Research group has created an ArcGIS Online lesson that explores the important locations and the progress of the Canadian forces on the battleground. You will also investigate the geography of the area to appreciate the challenges that the Canadian army faced and overcame to win this historic battle.

The Vimy Ridge Battle map shows the Canadian military’s advancements and the locations of key positions such as artillery and battery stations.

Another new lesson focuses on the Seven Years’ War. It covers the French and British conflict in North America that ended in 1763 with the signing of the Treaty of Paris. The outcome consolidated Great Britain as the world's leading colonial power and marked a crucial turning point in Canadian history.
