Taking ArcGIS Field Maps Offline with ArcGIS Enterprise
A common scenario for using ArcGIS Field Maps is collecting data with poor or no cell reception. To do this, you need to take your web map offline. Preparing for this can seem intimidating at first if you work with ArcGIS Enterprise, but it doesn’t have to be! We’ve put together some tips and tricks based on our experiences with customers.
Creating Accessible PDFs in ArcGIS Pro
Support for creating accessible PDFs is available in ArcGIS Pro 2.8! Accessible PDF files can be accessed by screen readers, making the document’s content available to a wider audience. Previously, to create an accessible PDF you would need to export your layout from Pro and then use a different software, like Adobe Acrobat, to tag the document for screen readers and provide other accessible information. Now Pro supports creating tagged PDF files (for layout exports) with alt text for elements, and metadata commonly associated with accessible PDFs.

Coronavirus Vaccine Distribution Solutions
Achieving high COVID-19 vaccination rates requires a robust and transparent public education campaign that provides accurate vaccine information, progress on the distribution plan, and guidance needed to access a vaccination. A series of new ArcGIS Solutions designed to help communities communicate vaccine distribution plans and monitor the effectiveness of those plans are available for ArcGIS users. The new solutions align with recommendations provided by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), support plans developed by communities to execute the CDC recommendations, and leverage your location-based data to increase public confidence and monitor key vaccine distribution metrics.

App of the Month: Grow BC
Earlier this year, BCAITC revamped their Grow BC site as now, more than ever, having an online presence is important to reach their audience of educators and students. One of the featured resources on the organization’s website is the Interactive Grow BC Map, which contains 63 informative stories on the who, what, when, where and why of BC agriculture and how food is produced and delivered from farm to table.
Map of the Month: Open Pit Progression, Rainy River Mine
This 3D scene shows the progression of an existing open pit in relation to the ultimate open pit design. The site is situated at the New Gold Rainy River Mine near Emo, Ontario. The map is a 3D scene created in ArcGIS Pro 2.6.1. All processing of data for this scene, including the layout and graphic elements, was completed in ArcGIS Pro. The map shows a sectional view of the mine’s open pit where the bottom of the pit is the planned ultimate pit shell and the 3D drone model is the latest topography. The original ground mean elevation line as well as the pre-existing ground profile are also shown for reference.

Reminder: Raster BaseMaps Moving to Mature Support
Esri raster basemaps will be entering mature support, which means it is important to begin updating your ArcGIS maps and apps to vector basemaps. Beginning in July 2021, Esri vector basemaps will become the primary basemaps for use in ArcGIS. At this time, raster basemaps will be placed in Mature Support. They will remain available, but they will no longer be updated. To ensure you are utilizing the latest and greatest data, it is important to update your basemaps to vector as soon as possible.
ArcMap Continued Support
ArcGIS 10.8.1 is the current release of ArcMap and will continue to be supported until March 1, 2026, as established in the ArcGIS Desktop Product Life Cycle. We do not have plans to release an ArcMap 10.9 with the ArcGIS releases in 2021. We understand there may be questions as to what’s next for ArcMap inside ArcGIS Desktop. By viewing the ArcMap Continued Support page, you will be able to find the answers to most, if not all, of your questions regarding continued support of ArcMap as well as resources to help you transition your work moving forward into several Esri products such as ArcGIS Pro.
Deprecation Notice for Explorer, Collector and Tracker
ArcGIS Field Maps was launched in October 2020 and replaces the functionality of ArcGIS Collector, ArcGIS Explorer and ArcGIS Tracker on the iOS and Android mobile platforms. These products (Collector, Explorer, Tracker) are currently available to download and are fully supported; however, they will be retired in December 2021.
