Find out what’s new with ArcGIS Online – December 2016 update
It’s that time again – ArcGIS Online has been updated with several enhancements. Learn what the latest updates include to get the most out of ArcGIS Online.
A number of enhancements were made to ArcGIS Online in December 2016. Full details of the enhancements that K-12 educators will find useful are outlined below:
Map Viewer
Additional capabilities have been added to feature layer attribute tables. You can now edit or delete attributes directly in the table, and view and edit related records, photos and files.
Demographic Living Atlas Data: 2016 Environics Analytics data for Canada
The Canadian update includes Census, 5 year historic, current year, 3 year projected, 5 year projected and 10 year projected demographics, as well as current year updates for daytime population, household spending and PRIZM5 segmentation data.
Join Features is a new tool that will enable you and your students to transfer attributes from one table and add them to another.
Further enhancements have been made to story maps; just when you thought that they couldn’t get any better. For both the Map Journal and Map Series, you can now add images directly from your computer as opposed to having to upload images to an online photo-sharing site such as, Flickr. In the Map Journal, main stage actions have been renamed to story actions. Story actions are links that you can add to your narrative to link to another section of the story or to change to main stage. If you have made a story map Cascade, you will be pleased with the updates for sharing and error checking.

There have been enhancements made to the Help menu to make it easier to navigate and access ArcGIS Online resources. The help menu is also available in over 15 languages.
Create account using social login
ArcGIS Online subscription accounts can now be created using your Facebook or Google credentials. Once members have created their account, they can sign in to the organization and their apps using their social login. Note – to set up one of these accounts, your ArcGIS Online invitation needs to be sent to the same email address used for either your Facebook or Google account.
