August Update: New resources and upcoming webinar for K-12 educators

Empower Students to Explore their World
Webinar: August 20th at 1pm (ET)

Whether you are with your students in the classroom or in a virtual setting, ArcGIS Online is a powerful tool for your students to explore their world. ArcGIS Online can be used to acquire and analyse current data, and communicate findings using maps. In this webinar, you will learn how to access ArcGIS Online, and where to find the free support and resources that are available to K-12 educators in Canada.

Educators will:

  • Learn how to access ArcGIS Online and the support available to educators
  • Discover curriculum-specific resources
  • Understand how students can use GIS in various curriculum areas

ArcGIS Online Activities

How Green is your Neighbourhood?
In this activity, you will explore your neighbourhood/school block using a map to discover high and low risk contributors to climate change.

Do I live in a Complete Community?
In this activity, you will explore and analyse your community to look for features that make up a "Complete Community" - a place where most of your daily needs are fulfilled in terms of where you live, study and play.

The purpose of this activity is to get you thinking about how your community has been designed with the environment in mind. As you think about it, consider how sustainable the surroundings are for the citizens who live there.

If you are new to ArcGIS Online, educators can request an account for themselves and their students at k12.esri.ca/#access. Parents can request accounts for their children using the same link.
