Multicriteria Evaluation to Determine Forest Bird Habitat during Spring Migration

Month: April 2018
Organization: Canadian Wildlife Service - Environment and Climate Change Canada
Products: ArcGIS Desktop 10.3.1

This map highlights broad zones in British Columbia important to land birds during spring migration. Particularly important are low-elevation areas where trees and shrubs leaf out earlier, making insects and seeds available earlier than on adjacent mountains. These highlighted areas also coincide with urban populated areas, posing a conservation concern. The Canadian Wildlife Service works with different levels of government and nongovernmental organizations to concentrate conservation actions in these key areas.
