BC Timber Sales: Use of Aerial LiDAR

Month: November 2018
Organization: Forests, Lands, Natural Resource Operations & Rural Development
Products: ArcGIS Desktop 10.2 and 10.3

BC Timber Sales (BCTS) has a mandate to provide credible representative price and cost benchmark data for the market pricing system through auctions of public timber. BCTS is administered through 12 business areas across the province, which use aerial LiDAR derivatives to complement forest harvest planning and development, allowing for more certainty around operational and environmental requirements. Timber, biodiversity, visual quality, resource features and riparian value identification all benefit from this planning regime. LiDAR derivatives aid in identifying potential hazards and areas of concern, which reduces environmental risk and improves worker safety.
