Summer’s the perfect time to try out new resources for the upcoming school year. Explore Esri Canada’s K-12 Resource Finder to search for ArcGIS Online resources beyond geography. Find out what’s available for math, science and history!

Are you a teacher looking for new resources to jazz up your classes in the fall? Well, why not add curriculum-linked maps to student learning? You can find many interesting and relevant resources from Esri Canada’s  K-12 Resource Finder. These ArcGIS Online resources cover subjects beyond geography and social studies. Below are some examples of what’s available in other subjects:

History Resources: Lessons

The Battle of Vimy Ridge
In this lesson, students will gain a deeper understanding of the significance of the battle of Vimy Ridge to Canadians both at the time of the event and in present day.

The History of Acadians in Canada
In this lesson, students will create maps to present the history of Acadians in Canada, including significant places and key historical events that directly impacted them.

The Red River and North West Rebellions/Resistance
In this lesson, students will identify key events, battles and persons during the Red River and North West Rebellions/Resistance and investigate how they continue to affect us today.

With ArcGIS Online, students can learn about historical events like the battle of Vimy Ridge from a different perspective.

Math Resources: Activities

Measuring Irregular Shapes, D=vT, & C=2πr: The Canadian Grand Prix Activity
In this activity, students use the Canadian Grand Prix Circuit Gilles Villeneuve as a means to practice D=vT, measuring irregular shapes, and C=2πr.

Measuring Area and Perimeter: The West Edmonton Mall Activity
In this activity, students use an aerial photograph of the West Edmonton Mall (Alberta) to determine the area and perimeter of the mall and consider the benefits and effects of other shape permutations.

ArcGIS Online is a great way to engage students in learning through maps.

Volcanoes
In this lesson, students will learn about where volcanoes are located, and the effects of volcanic and tectonic processes in Canada and around the world.

Marine Debris in the Pacific Ocean
In this lesson, students will gain a deeper understanding of ocean currents, the Great Pacific Garbage Patch, and the impact of marine debris on humans and ocean ecosystems.
