Summer PD for ArcGIS
Summer is a great time to learn new skills to enhance your teaching. This post will highlight new and updated ArcGIS resources and upcoming professional development workshops that you can participate in before the fall.
Summer is the season for learning and growing. Here are 5 PD suggestions for K-12 educators to do before the new school year:
1. Introduction to ArcGIS Online Map Viewer for Educators and Students
Updated Enroute with ArcGIS Online for students and Let’s get started with ArcGIS Online for educators are now available in Map Viewer. If you are new to ArcGIS, request your account at k12.esri.ca/#access.
The introduction tutorial will show you how to navigate the Map Viewer in ArcGIS Online.

2. ArcGIS Online Analysis (Map Viewer)
Earlier this year, analysis tools were added to the ArcGIS Online Map Viewer application. Try the newly updated Proximity and Hot Spot Analysis tutorial and learn about crime analysis from our GIS Career Path Lesson series.
In this tutorial, you will learn how to use ArcGIS Online tools to analyse crime as part of the Career Path Series on GIS in Crime Analysis - Proximity, Analyze Patterns and Summarize Data tools will be used to explore break and enters that occurred in Toronto in 2019 and how the analysis can help the Toronto Police Service (TPS) make informed decisions.

4. Esri User Conference Plenary Sessions
The 2023 Esri User Conference was held July 10-14 in San Diego, California. Check out the plenary videos to see how ArcGIS is used by sectors worldwide and the latest ArcGIS news. These videos will allow you to gain a deeper understanding of the world of GIS through interesting, inspiring and thought-provoking presentations.
5. World of Symbols
In this new activity, learn to understand the world's secret second language. This activity is created to support the English curriculum , but all teachers are welcome to try it.
