The role of GIS has been evolving since the concept of computer aided mapping and spatial analysis was conceived in the 1960s. Given the vast number of online mapping tools and interfaces available today, and the rapid embracing of the notions of smart communities, open government and the Internet of Things (IOT), it may seem like GIS has reached its zenith. Join Chris North, Director of Industry Solutions, as he explores the pivot points of technological advance that have driven the growth of GIS and spatial analysis. Chris will share his vision of the path forward for GIS and make the case that a fundamental shift is needed in the way we deploy, use and even think about GIS.
