York Region Next Generation 9-1-1 Readiness
On April 19, 2023, Julie Millson, Program Manager for Partnerships at York Region joined Esri Canada for an update on their Next Generation 9-1-1 readiness. Building on their existing info partnerships, their readiness assessment highlighted several areas where they needed to improve. Managing the complex stakeholder relationships was a key focus. This required formalizing agreements, knowledge sharing, establishing processes, and building buy-in across all levels of the organization. Julie shared the lessons learned by York Region on their NG9-1-1 readiness journey and how data is fueling this journey. York Region is acting as an aggregator which means they are ensuring address data collected in their local municipalities is complete, accurate, meets NENA standards and is updated frequently. So when a citizen needs to call in to 9-1-1, this data is readily available to the telco for call routing, first responders, and other public safety agencies.
