What Two Lines of Code Can Do to Your Web Map

Do you want to gain insight into the performance of your web maps and applications? Find out how you can do so with analytics embedded in your code, using Maptiks, an Esri partner solution.

Imagine you have a web map. To you, it looks great. It has multiple layers, which can be switched on or off. It has lots of valuable information for the user to utilize. It is easy to navigate, or so you think. But really, you don’t have the proper tools to analyze how users are interacting with your beautiful map creation.

Now imagine if with two lines of code added to the HTML of your web map, you can gain insight into every interaction a user has with your map. Thanks to Sparkgeo, an organization within the Esri Startup Program, you can use their product, Maptiks, to access an array of tools to track, monitor and analyze your map traffic, similar to how you track your website performance.

If you’re a map publisher, administrator or a marketer, you’ll no longer be blind to how users interact with your web map. A simple dashboard interface provides you with a wealth of information broken down into four categories, with quick indicators on the performance trend of each metric. Green indicates improved performance over a given period and red… well, I’m sure you guessed it, a decrease in performance.

  1. Basic Map Info – allows you to see the map library source, the number of layers and the first and last map upload dates
  2. Insight on map loads – provides you with the number of map loads, the average activities per load, the bounce rate and the number of loads per platform (desktop, mobile or tablet)
  3. Insight on map activities – whether users are zooming, panning or clicking on your map
  4. Insight on map performance – a general health check, if you will, of your map. A quick glance will educate you on the average visitor duration, average layer load, and an extremely important metric, the number of tile errors encountered on the map.

You can then navigate to each of the tabs: Loads, Activities and Performance for even deeper analytics with detailed information and visuals. This includes a display of where your users have navigated through your map, providing you with a combination of new consumer insight and critical performance management data.

Yesterday, you could only drive conversion through your website. Today, using Maptiks, you can analyze the data and improve the usability of any map product you have created.

Have I managed to spark your curiosity to learn more? I hope I did, because on Thursday, November 9, you can see Sparkgeo and its Maptiks solutions at the Esri Canada User Conference - Vancouver.
