Commissioned by the David Suzuki Foundation, this map is one in a series developed for a Natural Capital Valuation of Howe Sound, Canada. The study is part of a larger goal to make nature economically visible. By assigning an economic value to the functions or services ecosystems provide, the study aims to illuminate the connections between the economy and nature. It is a vital step toward designing the economy to be more compatible with natural systems. It helps lay the groundwork for an informed discussion of how public and private decision-making can incorporate a wider range of interests into economic policies.
