Fibre Attribute Mapping of Newfoundland's Forest

November 9, 2016

Month: August, 2015
Organization: The Newfoundland Fibre Project
Industry: Natural Resources
Product: ArcGIS Desktop

These maps illustrate the spatial distribution of wood fibre attributes for Newfoundland’s commercial forest area. The maps were produced using statistical models that link ground measurements of fibre attributes with environmental variables and forest stand variables contained in stand-level management inventories. An ArcGIS tool was developed that allows the maps to be updated as the forest management inventory is updated. The maps can be used to locate wood with specific characteristics in order to optimize the use of forest raw materials in production.
