What is your current title and the department that you work in? Desktop Support Consultant – Technical Support Describe your current role. Most of my time is spent as a support analyst for ArcGIS Desktop, ArcGIS Online and mobile products. I take both live phone calls and email cases, typically 2-4 per day. In between, I spend time working on previously opened cases, following up with clients, doing research on an issue, testing and troubleshooting a scenario, bouncing ideas off my team and interacting with our parent company, Esri, to get more information about a topic or to have a bug logged. I also work part-time with other teams to support clients using parcel fabrics, write technical articles for the Esri Canada Blog, teach introductory ArcGIS courses to the public and clients, and mentor new analysts and associates. What's the most notable work you have done as an associate? I received my certification as a Certified Technical Trainer and delivered several multi-day introductory GIS courses to clients and the public. I also worked with the Assessment Analyst team to write documentation and training manuals for the company's property assessment software. As well, I travelled to Phoenix, AZ and Atlanta, GA to deliver training to users. With the release of ArcGIS Pro during my associate year, I also delivered a presentation to my colleagues about the product. List any conferences/seminars/external training you have participated in as an associate. I attended the Esri Canada User Conference in Vancouver. I was truly blown away by the high quality of the presentations and demos, which really reinvigorated my love of GIS. I worked at the registration desk and the Technical Support booth, answering questions from users about Esri software. I got the chance to meet and network with many users, with whom I had previously only been in communication online or over the phone. What advice would you give aspiring and new associates? Never stop being curious. Esri Canada invests an incredible amount of time and money on keeping employees up to date on the current technology and, as an associate, you'll be constantly learning about new products and advancing your knowledge in existing areas. Take full advantage of the people and knowledge that surround you, as you're in a unique place to hone your GIS knowledge. © 2018 Esri Canada Limited. All rights reserved.
