What is your current title and the department that you work in? Developer, Desktop/Web - Tech Strategy Describe your current role. I'm working on Esri Canada's Automated Vehicle Location solution, which is a hosted product (like ArcGIS Online) that we sell to municipalities and other agencies that have snow-clearing operations. It provides the agencies with various web tools to view live vehicle positions, play back historic data, and generate collated data and reports. The tasks are extremely varied and include web development, custom Python geoprocessing logic, server maintenance and customer support. What's the most notable work you did as an associate? As an associate, one of my placements was with the ArcGIS for Canadian Municipalities team, which was responsible for providing templates to municipal governments to simplify their use of the ArcGIS platform. This included web applications, database models, ArcMap tools and mobile applications. I was mainly responsible for the re-development of the web applications as well as some mobile workfl ows. Over three years later, many municipalities are using the applications we worked on. Our most popular app was a garbage collection schedule app that allows citizens to determine their next garbage pickup through a web mapping application. What advice would you give aspiring and new associates? Keeping an open mind and having a willingness to explore new opportunities is key in the associate program. You will be presented with many different career paths to choose from and may get the opportunity to explore them. © 2018 Esri Canada Limited. All rights reserved.
