This capability reduces the utility's costs of creating and maintaining its own basemaps and allows it to focus on the operational information that the maps should display. '".064-"45803%4 When an outage occurs, utilities must move beyond solely restoring service; providing status updates to customers through the channels and devices they use in their daily lives is equally essential. By establishing this framework for proactive outage communications, utilities will be able to e!ectively communicate with customers before, during and after power outages and ultimately enhance customer service, improve operational transparency, and provide signi"cantly improved value to their shareholders and customers.
