Challenge As Regina continues to grow, its cultural assets are growing along with it. To plan and manage this growth, the city needed to create a current snapshot of its assets that could be viewed in a geographic context. This would lend itself to informed decision-making, allowing the city to identify current gaps in its cultural programming and opportunities for new offerings. In order to accomplish this, the city would first need to update its database by gathering a wealth of information from hundreds of members of its cultural community. Required datasets would include information on programming, facility features, organizational structures and performance venues. This data would then need to be integrated and mapped onto a detailed, consistent basemap that reflected the look and feel of the city's other mapping systems. To make the information publically available, the city would also need to develop a Web-based viewer that offered intuitive navigation. With a cultural scene that is continuously changing and expanding, the ability to easily update data would be essential. City of Regina fosters cultural awareness and sustainability with interactive Web map Voted the 5th best city to live in Canada, Regina is a cultural hub for the province of Saskatchewan. It offers a vibrant cultural community that includes one of the oldest orchestras in Canada and a world renowned arts centre. Undergoing constant expansion, the city recognized a need to map out its cultural assets to gain a better understanding of its resources in a geographic context. As part of this plan, the city leveraged Esri technology and data from the Community Maps Program to develop an interactive, online culture application that maps out hundreds of assets across the city. 1 Esri Canada | Promoting a vibrant culture through Community Maps
