Solution St-Hubert developed a Java-based online order-taking application that is integrated with Esri's ArcGIS Server. This provides powerful geocoding capabilities and integrates numerous datasets from DMTI Spatial including street networks, road closures and territory assignments. The application makes it easy to identify, at a glance, which portions of the city should be avoided, for more precise routing. To further improve routing, each restaurant is assigned a defined territory that can be easily modified using Esri's ArcEditor. When a new restaurant opens, territories can also be easily redrawn. The system was deployed in 2008 and initially supported 50 restaurants. Today, when a phone or online order is received, the customer's street address is entered, along with their name and phone number, and the system automatically geocodes the information and sends a notification to the appropriate restaurant. Once in the database, repeat customers only need to give their phone number and the system automatically retrieves their address and forwards the order to the nearest store. Benefits The online order-taking application makes it possible for restaurant operators to immediately identify road closures so that they can block orders when necessary and notify customers. They can also easily share this information among restaurant locations for efficient routing. This has improved customer communication and eliminated delivery delays. To further ensure speedy delivery, when a new restaurant opens, it is now possible to quickly modify territories so that customers continue to receive their orders from the restaurant location that is closest to them. Internet orders are automatically processed and no longer need to be manually verified. This means that customers who place their orders online will receive their food quicker than ever before. The number of Internet orders received by St-Hubert continues to increase which has resulted in time and cost savings for the restaurant. Looking forward, customers will also soon be able to enjoy the convenience of placing orders through their iPhones. " We have streamlined our order management process and significantly reduced the time between order taking and delivery. Esri technology allows us to optimize the productivity of our restaurants to deliver faster and more efficient service, which increases the satisfaction of our customers."
