Review of Current NG9-1-1 Standards and Practices The implementation of a national NG9-1-1 program is one which necessitates a standards- based approach to enable consistent, secure, and interoperable services across all systems and agencies. Where applicable, look to: • Review your current E9-1-1 practices for insights into your organization's environment, concerns, and potential opportunities or challenges during the transition to NG9-1-1 • Examine NENA, ESWG, government, and local standards to shape policies, procedures, people, technologies, strategies, Overcoming Inertia – Reviewing your State of Readiness Step 1: Understanding Your Current State and action plans to ensure a successful transition to NG9-1-1 and beyond The References section provides guidance and lists additional NG9-1-1 standards and documentation. Emphasize the Importance of NG9-1-1 to Key Decision-Makers • Look to build organizational understanding and support for your NG9-1-1 initiative by stressing its importance • Identify an executive level sponsor to establish an NG9-1-1 program • Form a dedicated NG9-1-1 program with key participants to create a vision, mission, objectives, and priorities • Identify NG9-1-1 champions to foster understanding, assess opportunities, and promote initiative advantages Gauge Learning Needs of Your Team • NG9-1-1 entails a vast amount of information, comprising regulatory oversight, industry and technical standards, and new operational methods. Therefore: • Varied staff levels and roles require specic skills for effective adaptation to these changes • Individuals and teams differ in understanding, abilities, and roles, necessitating tailored NG9-1-1 knowledge and competencies development Understand Your Partners and Their Roles Early in the planning process, it is critical to understand who contributes to your NG9-1-1 workow: • Identify and document key participants, including vendors, agencies, partners, and internal/external data and service providers • Establish clear responsibilities and foster productive relationships in early planning to ensure seamless collaboration Identify and Document Questions and Concerns As you develop the NG9-1-1 policies, processes and procedures, there will be an assortment of unknowns, questions, and concerns from across your team and partners.
