Together with the national Emergency Services Working Group (ESWG), Esri Canada has been engaged in developing the GIS data model. E sri Canada has a dedicated team for NG9-1-1 with extensive multi-disciplinary public safety experience, including GIS for Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) and Records Management Systems (RMS), law enforcement, and emergency management. Our experience, coupled with our participation and leadership in the Emergency Services Working Group (ESWG) and the National Emergency Number Association (NENA), demonstrates that we are leading GIS and interoperability standards for NG9-1-1 and enhancing public safety and 9-1-1 services for Canadian communities. [1] Our Team Our Commitment to NG9-1-1 N avigating the shift from E9-1-1 to NG9-1-1 involves more than just technological upgrades; it requires a comprehensive reevaluation of an organization's information management and operational practices. While GIS data serves as a critical component in enhancing emergency response, being ready for NG9-1-1 encompasses a broader spectrum of change. Municipalities face a need for holistic changes in practices and systems to seamlessly support the ongoing management and delivery of Public Safety Grade NG9-1-1 GIS data. Public Safety Grade GIS data is dened as data that is current, accurate, complete, reliable and follows an approved standard. It ensures that 9-1-1 calls are correctly routed, and emergency services can arrive at the right location as quickly as possible. The Transition to NG-Compliance Seeing What Others Can't The rst and most important change for authoritative data providers is adapting to the NENA Standard for NG9-1-1 GIS Data Model (NG9-1-1 GIS Data Model). However, it's crucial to acknowledge that adapting to the NG9-1-1 GIS Data Model represents only the visible "surface" of this transition. Below the surface, many important organizational and information management practices must be in place to support the desired outcomes over time. Data Models and Standards The NG9-1-1 transition represents much more than what is visible on the surface. Organizational and information management practices serve as the foundation on which to implement the necessary changes and solutions to achieve the desired outcomes and sustain them over time.
